Damn Small Linux (DSL) supplies the "fuse" driver for filesystems in user space. The supplied
ntfs driver will only mount NTFS filesystems as read-only. To get around this problem, we need
ntfs-3g.

The DSL archives don't have ntfs-3g and the Debian archives for DSL's dpkg don't have it either.
What to do? I compiled ntfs-3g and have created my own "ntfs-3g.dsl" package. Works great, just
mount your NTFS filesystems like this:

   mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sdb1 /mnt/sdb1

This is for the lastest DSL with a kernel of 2.4.31 ... just change the name from ntfs-3g.tar to ntfs-3g.dsl
and put it in a "mydsl" directory on your pendrive or burn it to a CD in a "mydsl" directory.

Since this is all user space stuff, it will work for other kernel versions, provided the "fuse" driver in
the kernel is up-level enough.

How do I use ADSL to send fax with a computer that has 56k modem? I used to use my 56k modem to send fax with dial up internet. I am now using ADSL. I installed fax using windows xp. When I tried sending a fax, it comes up in the fax console Outbox but does not go through (does not appear in the Sentbox). When I click the Receive now icon I get this message "There are no fax devices. Please install a modem that supports fax operations".

Release 4.4.10 has been the latest one for quite a while, nothing new in 2009 as far as I can tell.

Sorry, but DSL is a tiny Linux distro, doesn't have anything to do with ADSL which is digital data transmission over phone lines.
You might want to use Google to search for "internet fax" and see if some of the online services are what you need.

Wish I could offer you more help ...

Interesting.  That's shortly before Robert Shingledecker and a few others left to start Tiny Core Linux.  I suspect we won't see much more from DSL.  From what I read, John Andrews is not the most active developer.

lol.  A couple guys have a hissy fit, someone throws an ego trip, and next thing you know, a distro dies.  Interesting.

Sorry about that!

The NTFS-3G stuff is covered under the the following article:

Custom NAS Server Using Damn Small Linux

Under the "Links" section is the .dsl file:

   ntfs-3g.dsl

And also ... Welcome!

You can do faxing online now you don't need a fax device.
I use a company called metrofax.com. Their internet fax service runs about $13 /mo. If you are not doing a large amount of faxing there are some free services out there that do the same thing but they can be glitchy and not as reliable.

Hope this helps!

Cheers
Victor
